Understanding Capnography: Basics, Technology, and Clinical Relevance in Hospitalized Patients
  • Sidestream, Mainstream, and the newest type of EtCO2 monitor is Microstream which uses molecular correlation spectrography for greater precision. The Microstream monitor has a rapid response time and may be used with invasive and non-invasive ventilation.

Hugh Cassiere MD

Director, Critical Care, Cardiac Services South Shore University Hospital
Bay Shore, NY

Dr. Cassiere is a board-certified physician specializing in internal medicine, critical care medicine, and pulmonary disease, accredited by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He earned his MD from the State University of NY at Stony Brook School of Medicine, completed his residency in internal medicine at NYU Langone Hospital, Long Island, and further enhanced his expertise through a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship at NYU Langone Hospital. Currently, Dr. Cassiere is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He serves as Chairperson for various committees at South Shore University Hospital, including the Quality Committee and the Hospital Morbidity & Mortality Commitee. He also chairs the FDA Panel of Medical Devices Advisory Committee, which focuses on anesthesiology and respiratory devices.
